[ARABIC MANUSCRIPT]. [“Jawahir al-ihsan fi tahqiq ma’rifat al-arkan wa’l-iman”]. [West Africa, n.d.] Manuscript in many different hands. 92 leaves. Approximately 9 ½ x 7” and smaller. Disbound, loose leaves. Contemporary leather boards and spine with strap (binding heavily worn and torn, leaves toned, dampstained, edgeworn with chipping, internal wear). Fair. According to the accompanying typed letter signed from the British Museum’s Arabic Manuscript expert, Martin Lings, “... a treatise on practical theology… The author is not mentioned. There is also part of a treatise on Islamic law, much of which is illegible owing to damp; and there are several other fragments on various subjects.” The letter (dated 1st December, 1969 on The British Museum stationery) goes on to relate to the addressee (E. A. Goldsmith) that The British Museum is interested in acquiring this manuscript (the letter mentions 2 manuscripts, only one of which is present).
