Bound in contemporary full brown calf (rebacked to style in modern brown morocco, spine stamped in gilt, contemporary brown gilt morocco lettering label preserved, boards with some restoration at edges and corners, new endleaves, some mild toning to text, occasional minor thumbsoiling or foxing in text). Fine. THE RARE FIRST EDITION. One of the most comprehensive collections of building information from the period ever seen. The first section is an alphabetical list of building and architectural terms and their practical applications, followed by the Plate section with explanatory text interspersed among the plates. Provides a wonderful snapshot of the building trades in England in the 18th century, with interesting details in the text. Very scarce. Later editions appeared under the title New Builders Magazine and Complete Architectural Library.
