BURROUGHS, Edgar Rice (1875-1950). Swords of Mars. Tarzana: Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. Publishers, [1936]. 8vo. Illustrated with frontispiece and four plates by J. Allen St. John. 315, [1, blank], [1, ads], [3, blank] pp. Publisher’s full blue cloth, front board and spine lettered in red, publisher’s unclipped (“$2.00”) dust jacket, laminated issue (cloth spine a bit dull, minor rubbing to binding, ffep a bit shorter at the fore-edge (edge is neat and even, so it is unclear if this was a binder’s error or was trimmed by a later owner), text a bit toned; laminate just starting to peel away from the jacket, jacket spine sunned and edgeworn some edgewear, soiling, marginal tears to jacket). Very good. FIRST EDITION OF THIS MARS NOVEL, WITH THE HIDDEN DEDICATION ACROSTIC TO BURROUGHS’ SECOND WIFE, FLORENCE. From the collection of fantasy/sci fi collector Greg Phillips. Zeuschner 501.
