THE RARE FIRST EDITION OF THIS CIVIL WAR MEMOIR, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE FFEP: “Compliments of George Clark, to John Durst.” Born and raised in Alabama, Clark joined the Confederate Army as a Private, working his way up to Lt. Col. by the end of the war. After the war, he emigrated to Texas, where he became a lawyer and politician, holding the distinction of being the shortest-serving Texas Secretary of State (10 days), and eventually becoming the Texas Attorney General.
