And: Preciosa; or, the Little Gipsey’s Present. Being a New and Un-erring Guide to the Science of Fortune Telling… London: W. Kemmish, 1799. 12mo. Frontispiece of an elderly fortune teller with a man and woman. 84 pp. PRESUMED FIRST EDITION. Both titles bound together in 19th century full brown calf, boards ruled in gilt and blind, blind floral cornerpieces, spine ruled and tooled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, brown gilt morocco lettering label, gilt board edges and turn-ins, marbled endleaves (biding worn, soiled, some soiling to text, several text leaves with chipping to (mainly) lower margins, or neatly trimmed at lower margin (no apparent lost of text). Good. WITH THE BOOKPLATE OF DAVID GARRICK ON THE FP., AND THE BOOKPLATE OF DR. JOHN HENRY GROSSMAN ON THE FFEP, also with the bookplate of Francis Buchanan on the verso of the ffep. Apparently this book was added to Garrick’s library after his death, or his bookplate was added later. This book comes with letters to and from Dr. Grossman about the history and ownership of Preciosa, a rare book on fortune-telling.
