Sheets stapled and creased at center. Some toning, wear, , paper somewhat brittle, occasional chipping, sheets folded in horizontally in the middle (as usual), title leaf is loose (yet present). A good example of this notoriously fragile item. FIRST EDITION OF THE ADVANCE GALLEY PROOFS, AND THE EARLIEST PRINTED VERSION OF THIS NOVEL, ONE OF 5,000 COPIES PRINTED FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES. Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea first appeared in its entirety in Life Magazine; these galley proofs were circulated in order to publicize that event. Housed in custom chemise and slipcase.
