HUBBARD, L. Ron (1911-1986). Dianetics. The Modern Science of Mental Health. New York: Hermitage House, [1950]. 8vo. [xxviii], [1]-452 pp. Publisher’s full green cloth, spine stamped in gilt, publisher’s unclipped (“$4.00”) dust jacket (cloth spine a bit dull, some mild rubbing to binding, a few gutters overopened; jacket spine a bit toned, a few marginal tears and chipping to jacket spine, some edgewear, a few tears to jacket panels). An award copy, with a 1950 award bookplate from The Editors of Time to Corliss Phillabaum (who would become a theater teacher) for winning their Current Affairs Contest - also with a 1950 inscription to Phillabaum by, presumably, his teacher Gomer J. Williams. The award bookplate (now loose but present) and inscription are on the verso of the ffep. Very good. STATED FIRST EDITION. This is Hubbard’s most famous work, being the foundational text of Scientology. It has remained a bestseller for decades.
