JENKINS, Dan (1928-2019). Semi-Tough. New York: Atheneum, 1972. 8vo. [x], [1]-[309], [1, blank] pp. Publisher’s brown cloth backstrip over brownish-yellow boards, front board stamped in blind, spine stamped in gilt, publisher’s unclipped (“$7.95”) dust jacket (cloth spine a bit rubbed, occasional thumbsoiling to edge of text block, skewed; tape repairs to jacket verso at spine, some toning, rubbing, mild edgewear and small chips to jacket edges). Very good. FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, HUMOROUSLY INSCRIBED TWICE BY JENKINS: “To Sharon, Your a semi-great person who has a weakness for laughter - Dan Jenkins (on ffep) [and] “For Sharon - Somebody who says he’s Dan Jenkins signed this book! What an asshole!” (on half-title). With the embossed stamp of the recipient, Sharon May Belz on the ffep. Sports Illustrated named this book as one of the “Top 100 Sports Books of All Time” and many consider it to be one of the funniest sports books ever written. It was the basis of the film of the same name (1977) directed by Michael Ritchie and starring Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson, and Jill Clayburgh.
