Beautifully bound in period full French burgundy levant morocco, boards stamped in gilt with the arms of Princes Marie Adélaïde, boards triple-ruled in gilt, spines stamped and tooled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, with two brown gilt morocco lettering labels, gilt board edges and turn-ins, marbled endleaves, all edges gilt (some general minor wear, a few joints starting, a few volumes with small paper shelf labels on lower portions of spines, some head- or tail-caps mildly chipped). Near fine. SECOND EDITION SET. Offered with an additional two volumes (1 and 5, without the Kino map) of a later edition (1727-28) in a calf binding (some wear, generally good). Volume 5 has the important letter on California (pp. 248-287), “Memoire Touchant l’Estat de Missions, nouvellement établies dans la Californie, par les PP. de la Compagnie de Jesus…” by Pere François Marie Picolo (1654-1729; this section translated from the Spanish).
