JOYCE, James (1882-1941). Ulysses. New York: Random House, [1934]. 8vo. [xviii], [1]-[768], [6, blank] pp. Publisher’s full light gray cloth over beveled boards, front board and spine stamped in black and red, publisher’s unclipped (“3.50”) dust jacket (cloth lightly rubbed and toned at edges, endleaves a bit toned, small bookseller’s ticket on rp.; jacket with one tape repair on verso near headcap of spine, spine toned and chipped, some marginal toning, wear, a few chips and short tears at edges). Very good. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION IN FIRST ISSUE JACKET (“Reichl” on front jacket panel at lower corner). Before the text of this novel begins, there is the passage detailing the torturous legal battle to publish this title: “The monumental decision of the United States District Court rendered December 6, 1933, by Hon. John M. Woolsey lifting the ban on “Ulysses.””
