Good. FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE ACCOUNT OF THE ATTEMPT TO STEAL LINCOLN’S BODY FOR RANSOM. A gang of counterfeiters plotted to steal Lincoln’s body from his tomb and hold it ransom in exchange for the release of their engraver and some cash. Secret Service agent Patrick D. Tyrrell had learned of the plot and enlisted Power’s help (Power was the custodian of the tomb). 2 of the criminals visited the tomb during the day, and Power gave them the guided tour; that night they and their compatriots were captured by a hidden Tyrell and Power when the criminals returned to steal the body. This event prompted the creation of the Lincoln Guard of Honor, who protected Lincoln’s tomb as well as his family members.
