[MOSER, Barry (b. 1940), printer]. MELVILLE, Herman (1819-1891). The Maldive Shark. [Easthampton, MA:] Castalia Press, 1970. 9 4to loose sheets (including blank). Approximately 8 ¾ x 11”. Laid into the publisher’s portfolio case, as issued (tray of case split at corners and flattened, minor wear, soiling to case). Fine. FIRST EDITION, PUBLISHER’S COPY, WITH MOSER’S PERSONAL BOOKPLATE WITH GREEK TEXT ON THE FRONT PASTEDOWN OF CASE. Castalia Press was one of Moser’s earliest forays into printing fine books or broadsides, roughly beginning at the same time as his legendary Pennyroyal Press (he was forced to found the Pennyroyal Press when the home of the Castalia Press, The Williston Academy, refused to allow him to publish for-profit books or broadsides).
