Large folded map of the Grampian Mountains inserted at the end, and with Errata slip inserted near the front. Unpaginated. Dedicated to the Duke of Atholl. Approximately 21 x 14 ½”. Bound to style in 20th century brown cloth backstrip over marbled boards (binding edgeworn, title-page repaired, map, verso of map, rear endleaves soiled, some marginal wear and a few creased marginal tears). Previous owner’s inscription on front flyleaf, and bookplate of Ironside of Tennochside on the fp. Very good. FIRST EDITION OF AN IMPORTANT ICONOGRAPHIC WORK ON THE MOUNTAINS, HILLS AND WATERWAYS OF SCOTLAND, BY THE ENGLISH PAINTER GEORGE FENNELL ROBSON, who lived for a long time in Scotland, dedicating himself to the portrait of the most evocative landscapes. His paintings were exhibited in London from 1807 at the “Royal Academy”, and later at the “Gallery of the Associated Painters” in Bond Street. The images collected on the “Grampian Mountains”, one of the three major Scottish mountain ranges, were published in this volume.
