Illustrated with 33 double-page magazine illustrations, all neatly removed from magazines (with mounted accompanying captions), all mounted onto hard stock. Loose, as issued. Approximately 21 x 15”. Oversized portfolio with 4 cloth ties in half green cloth, over beige cloth boards (some wear, soiling to portfolio, some toning to illustrations and mounts). Fine. WITH AN ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING ON THE FRONT COVER OF THE PORTFOLIO, SHOWING A WOMAN IN WHITE HOLDING TWO FLAGS; THE PAINTING IS SIGNED “C. H. JOHNSON” IN RED. Title on the front of the portfolio is hand-drawn. A unique set with an original oil painting. Johnson was an American illustrator and newspaper artist. He is best known for his illustrations of the 1890 American edition of The Princess by Alfred Lord Tennyson. He worked for a number of magazines including Life, Truth, Munsey’s Magazine, and some newspapers.
