GEORGE, Grover (1887 – 1958). ALS to Frederick Eugene Powell. On a 4to sheet of “Supreme Master of Magic” letterhead, dated 10 Sept. 1926, Montevideo, Uruguay, George brings Powell up to date on his South American tour after more than a year since their last correspondence, relating some of the successes and hardships of performing in a foreign country. In part: “It is a great disappointment to me not to be hearing anything – or very little – from my friends. And while a great amount of success has been my lot, I am always looking at a goal ahead – a goal ever alluring which always seems just a little bit further on. I have played the important cities of Brazil, of Argentina, and of Uruguay – big theatres (the best of nearly every city) but it has been a hard struggle – particularly because of my inability to speak the languages…” SIGNED “Yours very truly/Grover G. George” and with the original mailing cover (stamp cut away). Expected mailing folds.
