DICKENS, Charles (1812-1870). Autograph Note Signed. Devonshire Terrace. 27 February 1843. One 8vo page on white laid paper. Addressed “Wm. Blackmore.” Sight approximately 6 ¾ x 4 ¼”. Framed under glass. Frame size approximately 11 ½ x 9 ½”. One vertical and horizontal crease visible, some ink offsetting. Mounting stubs visible at the extreme left and right margins. Fine. “If you will draw upon me at two months from the first of March for the amount of your account. I shall to [?] send to sue [?] you my acceptance. Yours truly Charles Dickens”. It is unclear who William Blackmore is, but Dickens was a law clerk at the firm of Ellis and Blackmore from 1827-1828, so it is possible that the addressee was associated with that firm. The year that this note was written was significant for Dickens, as he wrote what would become perhaps his most enduring book, A Christmas Carol, which would be published in December, 1843. Dickens and his family lived at Devonshire Terrace from 1839 to 1851. Not examined out of frame.
