[FILM – MAGICIANS]. Chris Charlton's American Tour Film Footage. Including 16mm and 8mm prints of this black-and-white silent film footage of the British magician's coast-to-coast tour of the United States in 1931, and including many rare moving images of great magicians of the time. Included are rare clips of Elmer Eckam, Donald Holmes, Henry Ridgely Evans, Floyd Thayer, John Mulholland, the Houdini collection at the Library of Congress, Dorny, Howard Thurston, Joseffy, Harlan Tarbell, John Mulholland, T. Nelson Downs, and Max Malini (in fact, this is currently the only available footage of Malini). Charlton himself appears in many clips; most of the segments are short by the very nature of the equipment used to capture them. Included are four reels encompassing both formats, and a a typed index of the footage with twenty-two entries in all. With the original gift note from the Sotheby's Findlay sale. A remarkable visual record of magic in America in the 1930s.
