[PLATES – SIDESHOW & ENTERTAINMENT]. Collection of Hand-Colored Engravings. Circa 1817. A bound volume filled with 48 engravings and lithographs, most attractively hand-colored and from Bon Genre and the Musée Grotesque, including many images of popular culture and daily life in the early nineteenth century. Images of conjuring and entertainment interest include the Indian Jugglers swallowing swords and performing with Cups and Balls (Bon Genre 88), the card game (Musée Grotesque No. 23), Jacques de Falaise the swallower (Bon Genre No. 93), a comical horse race scene a one-man band (Bon Genre No. 86), a little marionette show (Bon Genre No. 84), plus scenes of dancing, boxing, games, giant outdoor slides, and other lively scenes. Roan spine over plain blue boards (all well-worn but intact). Small folio. Dawes bookplate. Many prints with short tears, stains, or other wear or cropped close, but generally good condition. A very good collection.
