WESTWOOD, Vivienne (English, 1941–2022). Let it Rock / “Sex" Tie. [1972]. From Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren's brick-and-mortar storefront, initially named Let it Rock in 1971. Tag to the reverse side of the tie with the shop's name. Freeform patterned fabric with “SEX" screen printed twice. This text likely predates the store's renaming as “Sex" in 1974. An increasingly rare and unusually early example of work by Vivienne Westwood, as roughly $6 million worth of works like this were destroyed by Westwood's son in 2016 in an effort to preserve the punk spirit. Near fine.
