“The Empire" Die-Cut, Embossed Large Trade Card Featuring a Wright Brothers-Style Airplane. [Germany, ca. 1900s-10s]. Color trade card with “Compliments of The Empire Plymouth Wisconsin" at top with an image of a boy in a sailor's suite on an airplane surrounded by roses. Sight 11 ¾ x 17". Matted and framed under glass. Frame size 19 ¾ x 23 ¾". Upper corner of card is creased, center portion of cross beam of wing near boy's legs apparently missing a small portion. Fine. Not examined out of frame. A rare image. The Empire in Plymouth, WI was a commercial building that housed a dry goods store, a drug store, and a funeral parlor (presumably businesses came and went over the years). In 1924, there was a famous theft of liquor from Badger Drugs in the building (booze was legally sold by druggists during Prohibition).
