NORDENSKIÖLD, Adolf Erik (1832-1901). Two First Edition Titles in Three Volumes. Stockholm: F. & G. Beijers, [1881, 1883]. 4tos. Illustrated with plates and maps. All bound in publisher's full red cloth, red morocco backstrips, boards decoratively stamped in black and gilt, spines stamped in gilt (spines worn, soiled, joints starting, hinges starting, one map is loose). Good. PRESUMED FIRST EDITIONS. Titles include: Vegas Färd Kring Asien och Europa (2 volumes), Studier och Forskningar (bookplate of Emanuel Cederstrom). Nordenskiöld was a Finnish-Swedish aristocrat and explorer. He led the Vega Expedition, the first Arctic expedition to navigate the Northwest passage, and the first to circumnavigate Eurasia, related in these volumes. He earned many honors, including the 12th chair of the Swedish Academy, and was nominated for the first Nobel Prize in Physics (he died before the award could be given).
