[POSTCARDS]. [SHIRASE, Nobu (1861-1946)] Japanese Antarctic Expedition: Actual scenes of Antarctic Circle of Lieutenant Shirase. 8 scarce original postcards depicting the Japanese Antarctic Expedition 1910-12. All approximately 3 ½ x 5 ½". Led by Lt. Nobu Shirase. Postcards of the expedition were produced after the return to Japan [ca. 1913]. These were used as part of a larger fund-raising campaign to help pay for the expedition. All postcards unused and in fine condition. With original printed envelope on orange paper. Images include expedition members in their naval uniforms, penguins, various photos of camps and scientific equipment, and expedition members on the ice or on the vessel. Ross 4.7.1A.
