[xv], [1]-383, [1, blank] pp. Publisher's full brown cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt, in the scarce publisher's unclipped dust jacket (light rubbing to cloth binding, many pages unopened; jacket with numerous tape repairs to verso, verso soiled with glue residue at spine, jacket toned, worn, with several soiling marks, tears, chips). A fine copy in a good jacket. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING WITH SCRIBNER'S SEAL, IN THE SCARCE ORIGINAL DUST JACKET. Roosevelt began this hazardous exploration after his loss of the 1912 presidential election. Of the 19 original members of this expedition, only 16 returned.
