Very good. EARLY EDITION. With “Our Slave States II." on the half-title. Olmstead (before he became one of America's pre-eminent landscape architects) was a journalist and publisher who took a saddle trip from New England to Texas, where he interviewed various people, including runaway slaves, who all went to Texas for a fresh start. This book, first published before the Civil War (in 1857), was one of the most important and informative books on Texas of its time.
