[599], [1, blank] pp. Bound to style in modern half green levant morocco over marbled boards, spine ruled, tooled, and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, red gilt morocco lettering label, new endleaves (text toned, soiled, foxeds worn, some occasional repaired tears, contemporary ownership signature on title-page). Good. FIRST EDITION. “Delano, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, made several voyages to all parts of the world, including the Palau, Hawaiian, and Galápagos Islands; Manila, Canton, and Macao; New Guinea, Australia, and the East Indies, and Chile and Peru…" (Hill). Delano's retaking of a Spanish slave ship that was overthrown by the slaves onboard is the basis for Herman Melville's short story, Benito Cereno. Delano describes travels to the Galapagos Islands, China, South America, etc., and devotes much of the book to the mutiny on the H. M. S. Bounty and its aftermath (the map in the book is of Pitcairn Island). Hill 463.
