Portrait frontispiece and folding map of Asia on thin paper. 324 pp. Contemporary full mottled calf, spine ruled in gilt with burgundy gilt morocco lettering label (binding somewhat worn, soiled, endleaves and text toned, with occasional foxing and soiling, a few gutters overopened, pp. 9-18 a bit loose in binding, contemporary ownership signature on ffep.) Very good. THIRD EDITION, REVISED WITH CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS. Laid-in is a portrait of Rev. Adoniram Judson, husband to Mrs. Ann Judson. Mrs. Judson was one of the first American female missionaries. She had written Burmese translations of catechism, and the books of Daniel and Jonah. Her writings legitimized the role of a wife of a missionary, and this biography was one of the most popular book of its kind in the early nineteenth century, going through several printings.
