[ii], [i]-x, [1]-334, [24, ads, 16, ads]; [viii], [1]-[373], [1, blank], [4, ads] pp. Publisher's full light brown cloth, boards decoratively paneled in blind, front boards with gilt central motif of camel riders, rear boards with decorative central decoration, spines stamped in gilt, yellow coated endleaves (spines toned and with some edgewear, some light rubbing to boards, corners a bit bumped, text and plates toned with occasional foxing, several pages unopened, a few gutters overopened, bookseller's ticket on both fps.). Both volumes with bookplates of Garry Owen on the fps., and the embossed royal (?) stamp of the “Czarina Yacht" on both ffeps. Fine. THE SCARCE FIRST EDITION OF THIS IMPORTANT ACCOUNT OF LOWTH AND HIS WIFE'S TRAVELS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. Volume I is primarily about their travels in Egypt; volume II is about Sinai, Palestine, Petra and Syria. Only a handful of copies have appeared at auction in the last 100 years.
