Vernon, Dai (David Frederick Wingfield Verner). Pair of ALSs from Dai Vernon to Danny Dew and Related Ephemera. 1938–1981. Handwritten letter from February of 1957 in which Vernon discusses upcoming lectures, and mentions how the mask Jeanne Verner made for him “helps considerably to enhance the ‘oriental classic’”; second letter on Vernon’s letterhead from 1981 discusses details of Emil Jarrow’s routine. Group includes Vernon’s 82nd birthday invite; newspaper clipping from 1938; and two photos of Danny Dew wearing the Chinese robe and papier-mâché mask mentioned in first letter.
