Hepner, Adolph. Gambling Communities, Authority of Law and Law Authorities Under the Charm of “Nickel Slots” in Saloons : A Socialistic Treatise. St. Louis: A. Hepner, 1894. Clot-backed boards, original orange wraps retained. Oberlin College Library markings, stamps and bookplate. Jessel 729. While working as an editor for the Social Democratic magazine The People’s State, Adolph Hepner, along with two of his colleagues, was tried for treason in Leipzig, in 1872. Once acquitted, he immigrated to St. Louis, where he edited and contributed to a number of regional socialist publications.
