A Tragedy in Five Acts… London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1822. 8vo. 120 pp. Bound in armorial binding (the Cawdor family crest) of contemporary full brown calf, boards double-ruled in gilt, gilt central coat of arms, spine tooled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, red gilt morocco lettering label, gilt board-edges and turn-ins, marbled edges and endleaves (some wear to joints, edges, light soiling to binding, hinges just starting, minor occasional foxing in text). Very good. FIFTH EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY PRIME MINISTER LORD JOHN RUSSELL TO LADY CAWDOR ON THE TITLE-PAGE. Russell served as prime minister twice, and is credited with bringing about the demise of the Whig Party. The recipient, Lady Cawdor, was a member of the prominent Whig family, the Cawdors.
