Fair. DELUXE FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION EDITION, INSCRIBED TO GARRET A. HOBART, THE VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT (under William McKinley), AND BRYAN'S DIRECT COMPETITOR (AS BRYAN WAS THE LOSING PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE). Inscription on special inserted presentation leaf: “Hon. Garret A. Hobart Vice President W. J. Bryan with his compliments". With Hobart's bookplate on the fp. This was the first (of 3) presidential elections that Bryan ran as president for the Democratic Party (he lost all 3). An incredible association, inscribed just after Bryan lost the election to McKinley and Hobart.
