Good. FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK APPEARANCE OF THE LAW THAT INCORPORATES THE TOWN OF CHICAGO INTO THE CITY OF CHICAGO (on pp. 50-80 of the first volume). There was a separate printing of this act, issued nearly simultaneously. This law established elective officers and divided the community into six wards. The townspeople decided to pursue cityhood in January of 1837, and the legislature ratified the city charter on March 4, nearly at the end of the session. This volume also includes the incorporation of the counties of Michigan, Coffee, Bureau, De Kalb and Boone. Also the incorporation of the Illinois, McKendrean, Jonesboro and Alton Colleges. Also the incorporation of the city of Alton and the towns of Caldonia, Beardstown, Ottawa, and Jerseyville. Scarce.
