[MAGAZINES]. The Penny Magazine of The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. London: Charles Knight, 1833, 1834, 1836, 1837, 1845. 4tos. Illustrated. 5 volumes, each volume with roughly 52 weekly issues. Bound in contemporary half calf over marbled boards (different patterns, some wear, soiling, scuffing, joints starting, ownership markings, text toned, soiled, foxed). Fair or better. A good collection of this magazine which ran from 1832 to 1845. It began as a magazine aimed at the working classes but later changed to become almost an organ of the Whig Party, which alienated their audience, resulting in a dwindling audience.
