Bound in contemporary full brown calf, boards stamped in gilt, spines tooled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, black and burgundy gilt morocco lettering labels, marbled endleaves (bindings worn, soiled, some joints repaired or cracking, hinges starting, text toned with occasional soiling, foxing). Good. FIRST COLLECTED EDITION OF THIS EARLY LITERATURE AND SOCIETY MAGAZINE, VOLUMES I TO IV. Each volume with the armorial bookplate of George Nevill, the Early of Abergavenny on all fps. The Tatler was a new approach to journalism, with essays on contemporary manners and happenings. This style would influence other magazines, such as The Spectator, The Rambler, and The Idler.
