[2, blank], 406, [4, blank] pp. Publisher's full blue cloth, boards decoratively paneled in blind, spine decoratively stamped in gilt, yellow endleaves (spine a bit toned, edgeworn, some rubbing, soiling, light edgewear to boards, some foxing to endleaves, plates toned and lightly foxed, text with occasional creasing, foxing, yet still quite bright). Fine. THE RARE FIRST EDITION WITH THE UNCOMMON ALDEN AND BEARDSLEY IMPRINT. This book, written under a pseudonym (not known until recently), is a satiric diatribe against feminism and spiritualism, using elements of fantasy and science fiction. This book is dedicated to “T. P. Munrab", an anagram for P. T. Barnum, a well-known master of hoaxes and frauds, whose work “Folio." has credited with inspiring the fraudulent pursuits of feminism and spiritualism. This book is a somewhat veiled attack on the Fox Sisters, famous spiritualists of their day. From the final page: “SPIRITUALISM and WOMAN'S RIGHTS! Twins in their birth and ill begot; Twins in their grave – there let ‘em rot." Housed in modern green cloth clamshell case.
