Publisher's brown boards, spine lettered in dark brown, publisher's unclipped (“$20.00") dust jacket (spine of book and jacket lightly bumped at headcap). Fine. And: JARRELL, Randall. Fly by Night. New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, [1976]. 8vo. Illustrated. Publisher's binding, unclipped dust jacket. Fine. FIRST TRADE EDITIONS, PRESENTATION COPIES FROM SENDAK TO JUDY TAYLOR HOUGH, HIS FRIEND AND BRITISH EDITOR. Sendak and Taylor Hough met in 1961, and became fast friends. She tirelessly championed the European publication of Where the Wild Things Are (and, later, his other titles), and shepherded it through the publication process at The Bodley Head. She even saved his life at one point: in 1967, Sendak was with her on a promotional tour for Where the Wild Things Are in the U.K.; after the day's promotions, he knocked on her hotel door at 2 am, and collapsed in front of her. The hotel doctor said he had indigestion, but Taylor Hough disagreed and called for an ambulance; it was a good thing she did, because it was discovered that Sendak had had a major heart attack. He then received the care he needed. A superb association.
