Illustrated. 289, [1, blank] pp. Publisher's full olive green cloth, spine lettered in red (boards worn and soiled, text block slightly loose in binding, text a bit toned). Good. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, INSCRIBED BY DR. GILBERT ON THE FFEP: “Princeton, April 15, 1950 To Paul Harman with best wishes G. M. Gilbert". Gilbert was the prison translator and psychologist who interviewed the Nazi war criminals imprisoned at Spandau Prison during the Nuremberg Trials. Gilbert became a confidant of some of the most notorious Nazis, including Göring, Von Ribbentrop, Keitel, and others. He also testified about the sanity of Rudolf Hess. He would later testify at the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem. Gilbert's work is still taught today.
