Artwork depicts Holmes outdoors in front of an English street scene with his familiar meerschaum pipe and in his deerstalker cap. Signed at lower center. Sight 15 ½ x 30 ½". Framed 20 x 34 ¾". Minor wear to frame. Offered with a copy of this title (Carroll & Graf Publishers, 1987) with the above artwork on the front of the dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, SIGNED BY THE TWO EDITORS ON THE TITLE-PAGE. The artist, Kidd, always makes two original paintings of his images for books – one painting goes to the publisher, the other painting he makes for himself – this is the original painting he kept for himself (it is very similar to the image on the cover, but not absolutely identical).
