This title was later re-released under Ellroy's original title, Killer on the Road. This novel, about a serial killer murdering out of a van, was based on the real case of Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris, who would use a van to kidnap their victims. Ellroy is the premier crime fiction writer and essayist of our time, with such successes as the L. A. Quartet, the Lloyd Hopkins Trilogy, and his searing autobiography, My Dark Places. The 1997 critically acclaimed film, L. A. Confidential (directed by Curtis Hanson) was based on Ellroy's novel of the same name.
