[TRUE CRIME]. MCKERNAN, Maureen. The Crime and Trial of Leopold and Loeb. With an Introduction by Clarence Darrow and Walter Bachrach [Bachrach was the assistant defense counsel]. Chicago: The Plymouth Court Press, 1924. 8vo. Illustrated with photos of the crime scene and trial. 380 pp. Publisher's full dark gray cloth, front board and spine stamped in black, in the rare plain (apparent variant) dust jacket (flaps are most likely clipped by the publisher, and the price, $2.00 net, is on the spine (cloth rubbed, text toned with occasional soiling or faint markings, a few leaves creased at upper corner; jacket chipped, torn, toned, soiled). A very good copy in a fair jacket. FIRST EDITION IN THE SCARCE DUST JACKET – A PROBABLE VARIANT JACKET (this is a plain version of the jacket – the more common issue is with imagery of Leopold and Loeb – the illustrated jacket is rare, but this version may be the only version extant). Offered with the 1989 finely bound reprint edition, issued by “The Notable Trials Library." This title is the first contemporary account of the famous trial of one of the crimes of the century, and an unfortunate chapter of Chicago crime.
