Martin Giant Mechanical Rising Cards. London: John Martin, ca. 1950. Finely made mechanical faux pack of jumbo cards; cards selected by the audience rise from the pack. Includes card rising device finely crafted from Dural aluminum by Martin, winding key, tension plate, and later box. Good working condition, with a later lucite card holder suitable for use in performance, and typewritten instructions for setting and using the device, most likely supplied by Martin with the trick. Good working condition. Martin’s rising card “machines” were acknowledged as the best money could buy. As such, top professionals, including Jose Frakson, regularly featured the effect – using Martin-made props exclusively – in their acts.
