BRETT, Jeremy (1933-1995). Brown Fur Felt Fedora Hat, Owned by Brett, with an Original Drawing of Him Wearing it by Linda King. [London: ca, 1988]. Hat was created by “Herbert Johnson, 38 New Bond St., London." Lined in satin, leather inner band. No size listed. Some bumping, wrinkling, satin soiled, lightly worn. Very good. And: KING, Linda. Portrait of “Jeremy Brett as John Middleton Murray – 1973" (from pencil note on verso). 1988. Conte crayon and wash portrait on paper. Signed by King at lower right corner. 15 ½ x 10 ¾". Lower right corner torn away and re-attached with tape on verso (not affecting signature), some creasing, a small sticker on verso . Very good. This portrait shows Brett wearing this hat (or a similar hat). We do not have proof that this hat was screen-worn in the BBC production of “A Picture of Katherine Mansfield," (1973) which this portrait is based on. Brett portrayed Mansfield's second husband, John Middleton Murray. From the collection of noted Sherlockiana collector, Robert Hess.
