Royal 8vo. Numerous illustrations in the text; 5pp. publisher’s ads at end. (Light spotting to preliminaries). Original brown gilt-stamped cloth (recased, fore-corners touched up, light surface worming on lower cover).

Early edition, first published one year prior, INSCRIBED BY TWAIN WITH ONE OF HIS FAMOUS APHORISMS on the front pastedown to Mrs. Catherine Haley, dated 28 March 1906: “Do your duty to-day and repent tomorrow” signed “Truly yours, Mark Twain”. Inscribed copies from Twain are scarce but are even more rare and desirable when he adds one of his memorable aphorisms.
