Curtis’ credit, photograph’s date, title, plate number, and printmaker’s credit recto. Plate 401 from Curtis’ Portfolio 12, “The North American Indian, Vol. 12. The Hopi.” Image 11 ¼ x 15 ½”; sheet: 17 ¾ x 22 ¼”; frame 26 ¾ x 30 ¾”. Deckle edges. Paper toned with browning around the perimeter. Not examined out of frame. Curtis’ caption for the image as published in Volume 12: “The Buffalo dance at the Upper Rio Grande pueblos was lately introduced among the Hopi, who attach no religious significance to it.” All proceeds benefit the Howard L. Gottlieb Foundation, which has been supporting nonprofit organizations in the fine arts since 2015.
