ETIENNE / STEPHAN (Dom Orejudos, 1933 – 1991). Group of 4 Color or Black and White Printed S&M Images, and a Small Group of Ephemera, One Inscribed. [V.p., ca. 1980s]. 3 color and 1 black and white image, all taken from magazines or other periodicals, all framed under glass. Color images are captioned: “Pirate’s Pleasure by Stephan” (depicting naked pirates auctioning off naked men, reminiscent of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride), “The Barbarians Etienne’s panoramic painting of the Sack of Rome (depicting naked barbarians torturing naked Romans), “Ambush at Peckerwood Pass by Etienne A panoramic battle painted specially for Rawhide brings a slice of American History vividly to life.” (depicting naked Native Americans menacing naked cavalry men). Sight 10 ½ x 16 ¼”; frames 11 ½ x 17”. Black and white image is from “The Barbarians,” but is not captioned (on two pieces on photo paper). Sight 9 ¾ x 11 ¾”; frame 11 x 13”. Some visible wear, creasing. None examined out of frame. Generally very good. This group with a printed change of address card by “Stephan” with his business card stapled inside, (5 ¼ x 4” folded) INSCRIBED BY THE ARTIST, “Barry-Sorry you (apparently) didn’t make it out here over New Years weekend…. or if you Did, we missed connections. Welp, maybe sometime in ‘67. Cheers, Dom”. [And]: a greeting card with printed artwork by Etienne with a manuscript greeting to “Barry” from “Chuck” (most likely Chuck Renslow, Orejudos’ partner.) 5 x 6 ¼” folded. [And]: a color photo portrait of Orejudos (7 x 5”). [And]: a printed program for Orejudos’ Memorial Service, Saturday - October 12 (1991). 8 pp. folded, loose as issued on 2 separate sheets. Each page 8 ½ x 5 ½”. Program with 2 portraits of Orejudos. Fine. Orejudos was one of the most prominent gay artists of the 20th century, who, along with Tom of Finland founders George Quaintance and Touko Laaksonen, depicted gay men as masculine and dominant.
