MORRIS, Robert (1734 – 1806). Autograph letter signed (“Robt. Morris”) to Messrs. Carey & Tilghman. Philadelphia: 10 December 1789. Addressed to Baltimore merchants Carey & Tilghman, nearly in full: “I applied to Edwd. Tilghman Esq. for his assistance in drawing my answer to the Bill of Complaint of Messrs. Stephen Steward and Son. He tells me that a Commission must issue from the Court of Chancery appointing Commissioners to take my Deposition, therefore he has written to Wm. Cooke Esq. of Annapolis to do the needful. I have also addressed a few lines to Nat G—and you will find both enclosed herein open for your inspection, after sending these letters be pleased to Seal + send them… and Mr. Charleton will deliver you this + he may carry these letters to Annapolis. I have recd. your favor of 3d inst and am very sorry that your prices Continue so high, be pleased to send the enclosed letter for Mrs Ridley to her lodgings + oblige…” On a single sheet, addressed in another hand on verso.
