[AMERICANA]. [LOUISIANA]. BOSSU, Jean Bernard (1720-1792). Nouveaux Voyages dans l'Amérique Septentrionale… Amsterdam: Chez Changuion, 1777. 8vo. Illustrated with 4 engraved plates, one folding. xvi, [1]-392 pp. Bound to style in modern full mottled calf, spine ruled, tooled in gilt, red gilt morocco lettering label, earlier marbled endleaves (verso of ffep., half-title (recto and verso) and recto of frontispiece all with white paint correction, apparently to cover previous markings, inkstamp on title-page, previous dealer's ink notations of versos of both fps., light occasional soiling to text). Near fine. THE RARE FIRST EDITION ACCOUNT OF BOSSU'S THIRD VOYAGE TO LOUISIANA TO 1771-72. This is a rare early account of Louisiana, including flora, fauna, and interactions with the Native American tribes. This book was actually published in Paris (not Amsterdam as is stated on the title-page), due to Bossu's brief imprisonment for criticizing the New Orleans governor in 1768. Howes B627.
