Contemporary full brown calf, black gilt morocco lettering label (binding worn, board detached, text broken into three four pieces, text toned, worn, soiled, with several tears, fol. 301 with marginal tape repair with manuscript text, fol. 373 with repaired hole in text with loss to text, last few leaves with tape repairs to margins, margins trimmed a bit close, with some occasional loss to marginal notes). Provenance: With the bookplate, signature and two leaves of bibliographical notes by James Whatman (1702-1759), one of the best-known English paper-makers of his day.
