16mo. Original printed wrappers in red and black (some light chipping at extremes, spine darkened, few stains); folding cloth chemise; morocco-backed slipcase. Provenance: George Woodhedge? (ownership signature on title-page dated 1920).

FIRST EDITION by an anonymous author now thought to be William Laird Clowes who published an article in 1877 titled “An Amateur Assassin” about his experience taking hashish which employ many of the same phrases and formulations in Confessions. The article also refers to several of the same experiences and incidents found in Confessions.
