[FOLK ART] ARTIST UNKNOWN (American, 20th century). Tabletop Whirligig featuring Vignettes of Lumber and Farm Related Tasks Using Various Tools. Wood, enamel paint, metal and string. 13 h x 30 ½ w x 20 ½”d. Surface dirt overall. Wood has sections of chips and wear commensurate with age. Some wood loss along with 4 popsicle stick sections missing. Overall the work’s character is visually intact and is a manually working kinetic sculpture. Various examples demonstrate ax sharpening, sawing, circular blade sawing, water pumping, butter churning, blacksmith work on an anvil, et al. Machine comes with simple working electric motor. It is unclear where the motor was attached to activate motion for the whirligig and is not attached at this point. Found objects such as popsicle sticks for the fencing and wood spools for the mechanisms enhance the interest in this clever work of American Folk Art. Third party shipping required.
